TITAN news...

Fresh off the success of HENRY V, TITAN Theatre Company tackles one
of Shakespeare’s most beloved, and most problematic, comedies: THE
TAMING OF THE SHREW.

TITAN applies its signature, stripped-down, muscular, text-based approach
to the play, asking, “What do we do for love?”

Beautiful Bianca can’t wed until her older, foul-tempered sister Kate is
married. Brash Petruchio seems eager to the task, especially given the
generous dowry attached, but gets more than he bargained for in Kate, for
better and for worse. He holds the mirror up to her nasty behavior to beat
her at her own game. Meanwhile, Bianca’s suitors change their names,
their clothes, their identities all in the pursuit of love. Can Kate change her ways? Can Petruchio change her mind? What would you do for the one you love?

TITAN Artistic Director Lenny Banovez, who also directed the company’s HENRY V, is directing SHREW. “At TITAN, we aim to tell a good story, clearly – and I couldn’t be more excited about the group of artists we’ve assembled to tell this one. THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is so often characterized as a story about the subordination of a strong woman, but I couldn’t disagree more – I see it as the story of a stubborn, mean-spirited person who, over time, learns to listen, compromise, and laugh at
herself. There’s an important message in the play – which is that being stubborn isn’t the same as being strong, and that compromising isn’t weak; it’s what adults do. They get over themselves, look at the big picture, and have happier lives because of it.”

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW features Elizabeth Audley* (David Cromer’s Our Town – original off-Broadway cast, and the recent Los Angeles remount with Helen Hunt) as Kate, and Michael Poignand* (New Victory Theater/Syracuse Stage) as Petruchio, as well as Associate Artistic Director Laura Frye* (recently seen as The Chorus in TITAN's Henry V), as Bianca.
The cast also includes Adam Van Wagoner*, R. Scott Williams*, Matthew Foster*, Jordan McArthur, Marc LeVasseur*, Michael Selkirk*, Corey Tazmania*, David Allison DeWitt, Kate Gunther, and Stefanie Resnick.

The production is directed by TITAN Artistic Director Lenny Banovez and produced by TITAN Managing Director Kevin Beebee, with lighting by Jason Fassl, fight choreography by Alexis Black*, and Stage Management by Chelsea Moroski. THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is an approved Equity showcase.
